Professor Carl J. Boehlert joins the jury of the Palladium Global Science Award

The Palladium Global Science Award Jury welcomes Carl J. Boehlert, a professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at Michigan State University in the USA.

Carl J. Boehlert is an expert in metallurgy, materials engineering and materials science. His research interests include electron backscatter diffraction, intermetallics electron microscopy, metal matrix composites, mechanical behavior, titanium alloys and their composites.

Boehlert received his MSc and PhD degrees at the University of Dayton, where he studied the physical metallurgy of advanced titanium alloys and their composites. In 2005 he joined the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science in the College of Engineering at Michigan State University as an assistant professor. In 2007, he was promoted to associate professor and in 2015 to full professor.

He is a recipient of the National Science Foundation CAREER Award and the Department of Energy Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. He was a recipient of the Fulbright Senior Scholar Award and, as part of this award, he taught and conducted research at Universidad Carlos III in Madrid, Spain from September 2019 to August 2020.

The Palladium Global Science Award is an annual international science competition that seeks to identify scientific and practical ideas, research, development and future prospects for industrial applications of palladium, including new ways of using the metal and efforts to improve the technical and economic performance of existing technologies.

Submissions will be accepted until 31 July 2025. The jury will select five winners in three categories with a total prize fund of $350,000.
