Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science (ChEMS), College of Engineering, Michigan State University
Carl Boehlert is a professor of materials science at Michigan State University, with research interests in metallurgy, electron microscopy and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), metal matrix composites (MMCs), and titanium alloys and composites. Boehlert received his BS degree in Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Cornell University, New York, followed by an MS in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Dayton, Ohio. He continued his research into the physical metallurgy of advanced titanium alloys and their composites at Dayton, earning a PhD.
Following fellowships and research positions at Johns Hopkins University and the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), he was made assistant professor at the NYS College of Ceramics at Alfred University in September 2001. He joined Michigan State University as an assistant professor in 2005, before being made associate professor in 2007 and full professor in 2015.
Boehlert is a recipient of a National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award and a Department of Energy (DOE) Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).
